Autour du Yunnan

Situé « au Sud des nuages », disent les Chinois, le Yunnan est une terre de croisements : croisements de plaques géologiques, de civilisations, d'ethnies diverses, de climats, de routes commerciales, de voyageurs...
Depuis cette région où je vivais, j'ai voyagé par la route vers le Nord sur les plateaux qui marquent les débuts de la Chine de l'Ouest, vers le Sud en Asie du Sud-est, et à travers le Yunnan, cette province grande comme la France et variée comme l'Europe.
A l'occasion du dixième anniversaire de la Biennale du Carnet de voyage de Clermont-Ferrand (13-15 novembre 2009), les éditions Reflets d'ailleurs ont publié un coffret de trois carnets rapportés de ces voyages, associant textes et dessins.

Located "South of the clouds", as the Chinese say, Yunnan is a land of crossings: crossings of geological plates, of civilizations, of various ethnic groups, of climates, of commercial roads, of travelers...
From this area where I was living, I travelled by land towards the North on the plateaus that mark the beginnings of Western China, towards South in South-east Asia, and across Yunnan, this province as big as France and as varied as Europe.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Clermont-Ferrand Travel Sketchbook Biennal (Nov. 13th-15th, 2009), Reflets d'ailleurs Publishers published a set of three sketchbooks from those trips, with texts and drawings.

Vol intérieur

Un cambriolage, un cheminement intérieur, un voyage au long cours : voilà ce que signifie Vol intérieur.
Marc et Agnès rentrent de vacances avec leurs deux filles et trouvent l'appartement nu, balayé, rasé de toute trace de leur passé. Face au vide, comment réagir ? Agnès choisit de se délester encore et part en voyage, seule et avec ses questions pour bagages. Marc, quant à lui, se tourne vers le passé, vers la reconstruction de ce qui lui a été volé, ses objets et son identité.
Leurs quêtes respectives les mèneront sur deux chemins différents, et sur des réflexions qui remettent en cause les évidences qui les avaient guidés à travers dix ans de vie commune : la construction d'une vie familiale, sociale, matérielle, et d'une image qui conditionnait leurs choix.

A burglary, an interior development, a long trip: here is the meaning of "Vol intérieur"*.
Marc and Agnès come back from holiday with their two daughters, and find their apartment bare, wiped out, any trace from their past has been shaven away. In front of emptiness, how to react? Agnès chooses to lighten herself even more, and leaves on a trip, by herself, with her questioning as luggage. Marc, as for him, turns to the past, towards rebuilding what was stolen from him, his things and his identity.
Their respective quests will lead them into two different paths, and into considerations that challenge the evidences that had been leading them through ten years of common life: the construction of a family, of a social, material life, and of an image that determined their choices.
(*In French, vol means either "stealing" or "flying"; and the phrase vol intérieur also translates to "domestic flight", suggesting the idea of a trip.)
